چکیده

Visual inspection of composite structures can be expensive and imprecise. Imbedded nanosensors have the potential to decrease the need for visual inspections by providing an accurate real-time picture of the health of a structure. However, these nanosensors must be consistently fabricated and thoroughly characterized before they can be reliably implemented in engineering applications. In this study, carbon nanotube sensor yarns were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy. The effects of packaging, tension, and bending on thread morphology were observed. It was found that the surface characteristics of the threads can be easily altered during handling. A reliable method of fabricating small single-fiber fragmentation test samples was then investigated. The piezoresistive properties of the sensor yarns are being evaluated.

Synthesis and characterization of functionalized single - walled carbon nanotube/ chitosan/polyaniline nanocomposite

In this work the synthesis of polyaniline/chitosan/functionalized single- walled carbon nanotube nanocomposite is carried out. For this purpose single -walled carbon nanotubes were reacted with thionyl chloride to change the hydroxyl to acyl chloride groups for improving the react ability. In other step, aniline monomers and chitosan were polymerized in the presence of Iron (III) chloride to sy...

A multiscale study of high performance double-walled nanotube-polymer fibers.

The superior mechanical behavior of carbon nanotubes (CNT) and their electrical and thermal functionalities has motivated researchers to exploit them as building blocks to develop advanced materials. Here, we demonstrate high performance double-walled nanotube (DWNT)-polymer composite yarns formed by twisting and stretching of ribbons of randomly oriented bundles of DWNTs thinly coated with pol...

Increased tensile strength of carbon nanotube yarns and sheets through chemical modification and electron beam irradiation.

The inherent strength of individual carbon nanotubes (CNTs) offers considerable opportunity for the development of advanced, lightweight composite structures. Recent work in the fabrication and application of CNT forms such as yarns and sheets has addressed early nanocomposite limitations with respect to nanotube dispersion and loading and has pushed the technology toward structural composite a...

Linkage of doxycycline onto functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotube and morphological characterization

In this paper functionalized multiwall carbon nanotubes (FMWCNT) were modified using doxycycline, containing reactable nitrogen, which can attach chemically to functionalized MWCNT. The synthesized nano compounds were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Raman spectroscopy. These spectrums proved the existence of nitrogen atoms of amide functional groups. The mor...
